The World Health Organization defines Elder Abuse as “a single or repeated act, or lack of appropriate action, occurring in any relationship where there is an expectation of trust that causes harm or distress to an older person”. The Abuser can be a spouse, child, family member, friend or paid caregiver.

Elder Abuse is often hidden and difficult to discuss. Breaking the silence about this widespread problem is essential. We all have a role to play in preventing elder abuse.
